Who Are We?
Capilla del Sol Christian Church has served in the Northwest area of Tucson for
25 years. The Church is associated with the Disciples of Christ, a fellowship of Christians whose roots go back to the beginning of the 19th century as a movement to unify Christians. The leaders then decided that
the unity of Christians was of central importance and proposed that all believers unite on loyalty to Jesus Christ and the authority of the Bible for defining faith and practice. The emphasis was that on those elements essential to salvation, as plainly revealed in Scripture, there could be unity. In all other matters there should be freedom of belief with the emphasis upon love for all. The Church understands itself to be a part of the timeless, universal Body of Christ that embraces all who acknowledge Jesus as Lord. We often say, "We want to be known as Christians only, but fully realize that we are not the only Christians."
We affirm that our mission includes the following: to glorify God in worship and life; to proclaim by word and deed the Good News about Jesus Christ that others might find eternal life in Him; to nurture believers into a mature faith; and to promote healing service to the community and to the world.
We invite those who are not Christians to join with us in a pilgrimage of faith, exploring what it means to know Jesus as Savior and Leader of life. In Jesus there is opportunity for a new beginning in life for he grants us forgiveness of our sins. He gives to us the Spirit of God to enable us to live the Christian life. He grants to us the promise of eternal life. We invite those who are believers and seek to find a community of faith where they can worship, explore, serve, have fun, and all that life in Christ can offer, to join with
us.
